Welcome to the month of September and it’s once again time for The Word, brought to you by The Nerd.  A lot has happened in the past week.  We got hurricane Earl looming off the East Coast, the Emmy Awards, troops out of Iraq with President Obama declaring an end to the combat mission and a gaggle of other things.  I’ve noticed is that readership is up which is fantastic, I am glad that someone is actually reading my blog and hopefully making good use of it.  I’ve been working hard all week getting this week’s blog polished and ready and there are a lot of great links and news for you this week, so let’s get started.

The first link this week is one for the guys.  I said I wouldn’t do this, but I couldn’t resist.  From The Smoking Jacket comes a group of hot babes getting their game on.  Check it out here.  Semi NSFW.

The upcoming Medal of Honor is drawing a lot of fire (no pun intended) from lawmakers in Great Brittan over the content of the game.  It seems at certain points of the game, the player takes on the role of a Taliban soldier.  This has a few people very upset.  EA says it will not bow to pressure and will release the game as is.  British Defense Secretary Liam Fox is calling on retailers not to carry the game in order to “show their support for the armed forces”.  Read the full interview with Secretary Fox here.

Chip manufacturer AMD announced that it will retire the ATI product name and future graphics cards will be branded AMD.  AMD purchased ATI in 2006 and has continued to carry the name until recently deciding to change.  You can read the article and a video report here.

US District Court Judge Alan Kay has passed down a ruling allowing a man; 51 year old Craig Smallwood to sue game developer NCSoft for alleged video game addiction.  Just another fine example of not taking responsibility for your actions and blaming it on someone else.  Check out the full story via Maximum PC.

Fans of this past spring’s Kick Ass will be happy to know that Kick Ass 2: Balls To The Wall is close to beginning production.  In an exclusive interview with MTV News, Mark Miller said, “We’re probably about nine months away from production starting.”  The sequel takes place almost immediately where the first left off, with Kick Ass and Hit Girl facing off against a gang of amateur supervillains led by Red Mist.  You can read the full interview here.

I loves me some movie soundtracks.  I have a pretty impressive collection of movie scores at home and listen to them all the time.  Always on the lookout for previously unreleased content, I found this on DC Universe: The Source.  A collection of themes from movies and TV shows from the DC Universe; some never before released until now.  You can be sure this nerd will secure a copy P.D.Q.  Check out the announcement and a track listing here.

Keeping on the subject of music, a 14 disc collection of Star Trek: The Next Generation episode scores by Ron Jones is being released this month.  The set contains music from 40 different TNG episodes totaling over 16 hours of music.  It will be a limited run of only 5000 copies and will retail for $149.95.  You can listen to clips from the set and order a copy here.
