It’s looking like the sequel to G.I. Joe The Rise of Cobra is going to hell in a hand basket.

It was announced last week that John Chu would helm the project.  That’s all good and everything except Chu’s latest directing credits include Step Up 2 and Justin Bieber: Never Say Never.  So unless there is going to be a fair amount of singing and dancing, I fear that this does not bode well for the film.

To add more bad news, Sienna Miller said that she would not reprise the role of the Baroness.  In a statement released earlier this week, Miller said, “It was what it was, but I compromised my own values to a certain degree and I didn’t feel good about that.”  Personally I think she had one of the best performances in the entire film, but sadly she will not be returning.

Now to make matters worse, The Nerd has learned that Rachel Nichols will not be returning as Scarlett.  Nichols announced that the only characters returning for the sequel are Duke, Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow.  She also went on to say that she was saddened by the news and had really hoped she would reprise her role.

It is still unclear if Channing Tatum (Duke) and Ray Park (Snake Eyes) will be returning but it has been confirmed that Byung-hun Lee would return as Storm Shadow.  No other casting news has been released, but it is safe to assume that Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Cobra Commander) probably will be tied up with The Dark Knight Rises.
