Some of the first news coming out of Comic Con in San Diego is about the smash HBO series Game of Thrones.  After having a very successful first season and picking up thirteen Emmy nominations, the cast and crew are gearing up for season 2.

Cast members Lean Headey, Peter Dinklage, Kit Harington, Emilia Clarke and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau were on hand at SDCC along with executive producer David Benioff and author George R. R. Martin.  They spoke to the crowd about the upcoming season which begins filming on Monday in Ireland.

Benioff said that season two will remain close to the second book of the A Song of Ice and Fire series written by Martin but would begin to stray from the books during season three.

“If we’re lucky enough, if we have a season three, that’s when it will start not corresponding so neatly to the books because Storm of Swords is too big to do as one season,” he said.

Season two of Game of Thrones is slated to premiere Spring 2012 on HBO.  Check out the video below for a season one recap.
