The Amazing Spider-Man’s Rhys Ifans was detained Friday night after an incident with security.  Ifans was arrested and cited for shoving a female security guard backstage at the event. Columbia Pictures issued a statement shortly after.

“Rhys Ifans was detained by Comic-Con security after a brief incident backstage prior to and immediately following the Amazing Spider-Man panel,” said Steve Elzer, Senior vice president of media relations. “Police were notified and a citation was issued to Mr. Ifans, who deeply regrets the incident.”

Witnesses said that Ifans smelled of alcohol and was verbally abusive to the staff on hand.  Apparently a member of his entourage did not have the proper credentials for the venue and tried to shove his way past before the event.  Ifans was allowed to participate and was detailed and cited afterwards.

Ifans later said that he deeply regretted the incident.

It’s a shame that his behavior brought this kind of negative press to the Comic Con event.
